Building Independence Through Real-Life Experiences
At Next Step Transition Center, our Individualized Skills and Socialization (ISS) program is designed to empower young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to continue learning, growing, and becoming active members of their communities.
Our person-centered approach focuses on each individual's goals, strengths, interests, and abilities. Through structured learning, community experiences, and meaningful social interactions, participants develop the skills and confidence needed for greater independence.
Capturing the ISS Experience
On-Site ISS
Our On-Site ISS program provides a structured classroom-style environment where participants build independent living, social, and daily living skills through engaging activities, group instruction, and hands-on learning. Throughout the day, participants also enjoy community outings that allow them to practice these skills in real-world settings.
Our On-Site ISS program is currently available at our Deer Park location.
Off-Site ISS
Our Off-Site ISS program takes learning beyond the classroom by using the community as the primary learning environment. Participants meet at a designated community location before spending the day participating in meaningful activities throughout the community. These experiences provide natural opportunities to practice communication, problem-solving, socialization, budgeting, safety awareness, and other essential life skills while building confidence and independence.
